Had to hit the mill, I really hate the treadmills at our new gym - they seem really hard.  I think the sidewalks are softer!  Didn't do all the running I planned to, finished up on the elliptical.  Worked hard though!

Home workout. Discovered Crow Push-ups...ow!  The Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30 DVD is actually variations on a lot of good, basic training.  Lunges, push-ups, squats, planks, etc.  You know, the stuff that really works!  And I like her workout plan of 3-2-1.  3 min of strength, 2 min of cardio, 1 min of abs.  In case anyone was curious....

No miles again as I was trying out a new class for my cross-training days.  I've found that having one class a week that really kicks my butt is really important for my mental attitude towards running.  Finally found a great class: Club Boxing Ciruit.  It's tough and makes me do all the training I don't want to do on my own, plyometrics, push-ups, and ab work.  Yeah!

What a beautiful evening - 65 in MN, in MARCH!  Yeah!  First run of the season with the kids along.  Daughter in stroller, boys on their bikes.  My daughter has definitely gained weight since last summer - legs are feeling the weight I was pushing.  Well, that will help my solo runs feel all that much better!

Did the loop around my house; actually started out much too fast for me - sub 8 min mile.  Ended up running 3.12 in 26.30.  Even walked for about 30 seconds due to the fast start.  It just felt so good!  But I really need to figure out a way to pick a pace I can stick with and not start so fast.  Or, maybe I should have just done intervals tonight....now to prep myself for a 7 miler tomorrow.  Completely doable, just haven't done it for a long time!

7.0 miles at 10:13 pace, 70 degrees, wind was 22mph.  I was doing a good job holding back to a 10 min mile pace and then the wind started getting to me and I didn't have to hold back anymore, I was tired.  Lost a bit of time on the last 1.5 miles.  First time I've done that distance in awhile though so I'm happy.  Week one of 1/2 marathon training - DONE!

4.2 miles, 72 degrees, wind 6mph nw, 49% humidity.

Tried out new saucony triumph 9's; 8mm heel drop.  Calves could definitely feel the difference. I also tried runnning a 180/min cadence - wow, that's hard!  Am I really supposed to be able to do that or is that something a professional/experienced runner does?  I could not maintain that cadence so I turned it into more of an interval training.  My hamstrings were definitely getting tired, I also tried to use those more and keep my feet right under me rather than over-striding.  On the plus side, my IT band is not bothering me after this run like it has on other runs lately.

8.0 miles, 55 degrees, 9mph ne wind.  Run felt awesome - I loved the extra energy I got around 5.5 miles.  I actually finished the run stronger than I started and had a great boost of confidence knowing that I could have done more miles if I needed.  I did have one first, ahem how to say this delicately......runners trots?  I actually had to stop and sit on the curb under the guise of a leg cramp because I thought I was going to lose control.  Luckily I didn't but my family was wondering why I busted through the house and straight to the bathroom afterwards!  :-)  If anyone actually reads this, do you have any advice?

3.2 miles, 66 degrees, wind 25 mph sw w/ gusts up to 40 mph.  This certainly wasn't a fast run with the wind as strong as it was but it was a strength building run.  Running into that wind has made my legs a little sore and they wouldn't normally be after a short run like this!  :-)

First time I've done 10 miles since last fall and all I can say is OUCH.  This training plan takes me up to 17 miles....not sure how that's going to go but I've discovered the best way to do these long distance runs is to just run - no thinking about it!

Other than that, legs felt good after Saturday's long run; just a tiny bit tired but they warmed right up after a couple miles.  I mostly noticed that running into the wind was a little harder than normal.

Took it pretty easy tonight since I have my long run tomorrow - 11 miles, it'll be the furthest I've ever gone!  57 degrees, 7 mph NW wind.  I've been running without music lately and finding that I'm surviving.  Somehow, after a long day at work and kids to come home to the quiet is nice, even if I do live in a busy suburb so the quiet isn't all that quiet.  BUT, no one is demanding I listen to the either!

12 miles, perfect weather; 55 degrees and sunny!  Felt pretty good until mile 8 where I started to tire but was still OK.  By mile 10 I was noticeably struggling and the last mile was very hard.  But I'm feeling very proud that I stuck it out!

3.2 miles, 20mph SE wind, 70 degrees and humid.  I was intending to do speedwork but the wind was not cooperating!  I did do a few intervals and just did more of a tempo run otherwise.  With the wind it was quite a hard run and I also discovered that my legs were still tired from the 12 miler on Sunday.

5 miles during son's soccer practice. Calm wind, 79 degrees. I was looking over my stats and here's a funny one, you can see where my speed dipped which coincided with the three separate geese that were in my path. One was angry and did a little chasing - so I also got in one round of speed work! :-) I am happy to note that I ran very easily at my half marathon pace.

First time I've done 13, it's nice to know that I'll be able to complete my 1/2 marathon on June 3rd.  Everything from the waist down though hurts or aches!  Time today was 2:08 and I was running easy but I did struggle the last 1 1/2 miles.  I wonder if I'll be able to complete the half in 2:00 or less??  According to my 5k time I should but I don't know.....today was hard!

5.1 miles, 20mph NW wind.  Great run in spite of the wind!  First three miles were right around 8:30, then the last two were around 9:00 because I was running against the wind. Oh, 61 degrees.

My first half marathon is June 3rd and when I started my training plan I was intending to try and finish in around 2 hrs.  However, I think that I'm going to need to adjust my expectations and be satisfied with 2:05.  A little disappointing but for my first one maybe not to bad a time.....does anyone have any advice for running my first half?

What a great first half marathon!  Well organized and lots of people to cheer on the runners with a great party at the finish line. It was definitely a warm run though!  I missed my goal of 2:10:00 but when looking at my splits I see that I was on track until mile 10 and then I slowed significantly down.  But, now I have a starting point and am ready to go again in the fall!  Woo hoo!

I should have hated this run.  It was 96 degrees with the heat index and winds were 23mpg SE.  Miserable conditions for running, but I loved it!  I have to say, this is the first run since my half marathon that I've felt comfortable.  I did take a few 30 second walk breaks do to the heat but the running felt good!  Looking forward to my long run Wed. night!

The good news is that I can confirm my legs are getting tired because of pushing my daughter in her stroller (60 extra lbs!).  I didn't have to take her along last night and today my legs and glutes are feeling good, not tired as they have been the past several runs.  The bad news is that it was so stinking hot I overheated and had to cut my run short.  I really need to find a more shaded route.....oh well, I just knocked off a mile and since I ran Monday night, which wasn't called for, I'm thinking it will be ok.  XT training or rest tonight, my body wants to run again.....but I'm not going to let it!

Speedwork at the track, my first time doing (what I would consider) true speedwork.  Man oh man was that tough!  4X400's, each lap took me 1:45.  I realize to the track stars on this blog that's slow but it didn't feel slow to me!  I just wanted to record the time so that months from now I can see that I'm improving.  Because I WILL IMPROVE!  :-)   On a side note, I still kicked my husband's butt....hee hee.

This isn't the fastest that I could have run this but it was exactly what I wanted to do.  In the couple of races that I've run I always start out WAY to fast and then spend a miserable last couple of miles.  Today I wanted to experience letting everyone else start out to fast while I maintained a steady (and comfortable) pace.  One thing about this race though - the last 1.5 miles were all hills!  I was feeling ok after the race but my legs are sure feeling those hills now!

I was feeling the 10 miler I did on Sunday and thought I was going really slow.  However I was pleasantly surprised that I kept up a decent pace throughout the run.  For the first time in my running history I felt a twinge in my shin at the beginning of my run (it went away after a couple minutes) so I rolled the heck out while catching up on some mindless TV - hopefully that helps!

 This run was actually a Parents VS Kids soccer  game and let me tell ya - some of these kids were fast!  And who knew the field was so stinkin' big??  Anyway, not sure on the mileage but I did A LOT of back and forth running.  I'm counting this as a speed workout since I had to break it into high gear the length of the field at least 20 times....that doesn't include all of the just loping along I did.  Definitely sore today so it was a good workout!  :-)  Oh, the kids won....but I did score a couple of  times on my goalie son!

I am so very undertrained for my half marathon next Saturday.  This run was much harder than it should have been - maybe a little because I ran it in the evening?  I normally do longer runs on a weekend morning....either way, I'm definitely undertrained.  I could whine about family demands on my time but the truth is I'm just unwilling to get up at 3am to get in a run so I must get them in around soccer practice, tutor sessions, grocery shopping, etc.  That's life and since I'm not going to make any money at this it has to come second.  However, it's lovely knowing, that while I'm busy driving kids to appointments and running errands, that I'll have an hour or so to myself in the evening.  Just me and the neighborhood - at peace.  :-)  Cheers to an upcoming painful half-marathon!

I'm in my second year of running and this year I have discovered that I LOVE running in the elements.  Last nights run in the rain was fun - I'm not sure why but the sense of freedom I had was amazing.  Not caring about being drenched or clothes being ruined and the sense of feeling like a tough chick made me want to head right back out again when I was done. Another plus side was that my legs were cold so I couldn't even feel that they were tired.  YEAH FOR COOL RAIN RUNS!
